JEWEL Tilt-In-Space
FAQ’s – Frequently Asked Questions

Q         Is the jewel suitable to sit in all day?

A.         Yes, most definitely. The Jewel has been designed for the average person to sit in all day provided that they have no existing pressure concerns (or would be particularly prone to them due to medication or condition) and provided that the Tilt-In-Space function is utilized periodically.

Q.        Will the Jewel assist users who slump out the side of normal wheelchairs?

A.         Yes, this is most common with users who require a greater amount of lateral support than a conventional wheelchair and this is easily given by the Jewel’s more supportive contoured backrest and assisted by the Tilt-In-Space function.

Q.        Can the Jewel be fitted with a pressure cushion?

A.         Yes, the Jewel is available with a flat board to take after market cushions.

Q.        We have carers who are different heights who push the chair and find some push handles too low.

A.         The Jewel is available with optional height adjustable push handles, which should suit carers of different heights.

Q.        How adjustable is the Jewel?

A.         The Jewel has great adjustability. The backrest has a manual recline, which will adjust to horizontal (although this is not recommended for daily use); the seat/back unit adjusts in tilt angle. The armrests adjust in both height and width, the headrest adjusts in angle, and the footrests adjust in height. The legrest mount adjusts in depth and the optional elevating legrests adjust in angle (to horizontal).

Q.        Can the Jewel be secured in a vehicle?

A.         The Jewel may be secured around the front frame near the castors and around the rear          tie-down loops on the frame.

Q.        My client needs more lateral support from the standard headrest.

A.         The fully adjustable y-type headrest is exceptionally supportive for special requirements.

Q.        How will the Jewel help my nursing staff?

A.         The Jewel has a simple foot operated Tilt-In-Space function allowing staff to keep both hands on the wheelchair. In addition, the Tilt-In-Space feature ensures gravity assists in getting users correctly positioned in the seat with minimal effort from the staff. The Jewel is one of the lightest Tilt-In-Space wheelchairs to push.

Q.        Is the Jewel easy to keep clean?

A.         Yes. The Jewel is, as standard, upholstered with easy clean vinyl on the seat and arms, the areas of greatest wear and potential for soiling. The backrest is covered with breathable velour material. Should soiling occur, the seat and backrest can be lightly sponged with warm water and detergent.

Q.        I have a client who continually slides forward in the seat on a standard wheelchair; can the jewel help this?

A.         Yes, absolutely. The benefits of the Jewel’s supportive seating system and Tilt-In-Space are ideal for this situation. You will find that once the user is positioned correctly in the MPS and some Tilt-In-Space is added the combination of seating, tilt and gravity will assist enormously in posture.
